On our project we are using smooth streaming with PlayReady DRM.
We’ve faced a situation when the playback starts glitching after pause/play actions or after rewind. That happened after firmware updates that were 2 or 3 weeks ago.
We’ve checked this on a few devices, and the result was the same: playback started glitching.
Media and DRM formats that are unmentioned in Streaming Protocol and DRM are not supported or not recommended for use in the webOS TV platform. Therefore, we cannot help you with this. Sorry for not being helpful.
Could you please provide more information about supported stream types?
In the documentation, I found only a recommendation to not use Smooth Streams but nothing about support.
Only one thing I found about supported stream types:
And I do not correctly understand what “HTTP/HTTPS” means. Does it mean that WebOS TV devices support only HLS streams and progressive download over HTTP/HTTPS? Because DASH and Smooth Stream are build over HTTP/HTTPS as well.
And we do not have any troubles with Smooth Streams before updates… Is Smooth Stream officially unsupported by WebOS?
As mentioned above, media and DRM formats that are unmentioned in Streaming Protocols and DRM are not supported or not recommended for use in the webOS TV platform. And we support HLS and HTML5 MSE/EME. In the webOS TV app, only some specific streaming protocol and DRM combinations are supported. To use PlayReady, you should implement your own player with HTML5 MSE/EME or use third party solutions like Shaka Player. Thank you.
It is strange because of the app works from 2018 and everything was fine till that moment.
Maybe anyone else, who will face such problem will found this information helpful - In process of testing we’ve found that problem touches K-chipset based models starting from WebOS 2022.
And it seems like only two solutions are possible:
Do not use WebOS TV native player and switch to custom player
