Dear LG webOS TV Developer Support Team,
We are developing a webOS TV application designed to operate using five directional control inputs: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, and OK (SELECT).
Our question concerns the physical control buttons built directly into the TV chassis, not the remote control.
For LG TVs equipped with a five-button directional control cluster (four directional buttons and one central OK button), we would appreciate clarification on the following:
1. Are events generated by these physical buttons forwarded to third-party webOS TV applications?
2. Are any of these five physical buttons reserved exclusively for TV firmware or system functions?
3. If the application has focus, can it receive these physical button inputs as standard JavaScript keyboard events?
4. Is this behavior consistent across LG TV models and webOS versions?
5. Is there any official documentation or compatibility information covering these physical buttons?
Our goal is to determine whether a third-party application can be operated entirely through the TV’s built-in physical buttons without requiring a remote control.
Thank you for your technical guidance.
Best regards,
SST Development Team
